Many residents tossed away their festival plants after the Spring Festival due to not having enough time, space and knowledge to take care of them.
The city’s urban management bureau is now entrusting recycling companies in every district to collect abandoned potted flowers and plants from the public after the Lunar New Year, according to sznews.com.
Many flowers and tangerine trees that are bought by residents for the festival are then deserted and become seasonal rubbish after the holiday, but some tangerine trees could still bear fruit the following year if they were well cultivated, according to previous media reports.
Property management companies are encouraged to contact recycling companies for door-to-door collection service.
Futian, Nanshan, and Yantian districts as well as Guangming and Dapeng new areas have each entrusted one recycling company to make the collection, while two companies in Luohu District, nine companies in Bao’an District and seven companies in Longgang District have been entrusted to collect the deserted plants, according to the report.
