Toilet revolution continues in Guangdong, more advanced toilet to built in 2017

Perhaps you have the same experience at China’s tourist attractions: going to a public toilet, you have to hold your breath and try not to look at the mess.

Sometimes you may even feel embarrassed when encountering that a little boy come to the Ladies’s with his mother (or a little girl come to the Gentlemen’s with her father).

These problems have led to a toilet revolution in China in the past few years. And the revolution will go on with new goals set for 2017: 29 third public toilets are to be built in Guangdong this year.

New odor-eating toilet?!

A new kind of no-flush toilets which can eliminate embarrassing bathroom odors has already put into use in TaiKoo Hui, Guangzhou.

The toilet is covered with a special coating that can absorb odors and discharge waste so that no flush is required. It is learned that it can save 151 tons of water every year. Besides, wastewater in wash basin will be collected and be recycled.

What is the third toilet?

The third toilet is designed for the old and the young who cannot go to the toilet themselves and need help from their families.

It is not a new concept in many developed countries, yet still unfamiliar to Chinese people.

Third toilet should be a must for 5A tourist sites

The government has announced that all national 5A (the highest level in tourism evaluation) tourist sites should be equipped with the third toilet.

Until now, third toilets have been arranged in some tourist sites of Guangdong including Baiyun Mountain, Baomo Garden, Lingnan Impression and TaiKoo Hui shopping mall. According to the provincial tourism administration, 29 more third toilets are to be established in 2017.

Besides increasing third toilets, Guangdong’s toilet revolution will strive to highlight Lingnan culture in toilet design and bring in new operation mode for sustainable maintainence.
