Crossover to promote traditional handicrafts in Guangzhou

You may have seen or own many exquisite and beautiful traditional handicrafts from Guangzhou as shown above, wood carving, jade carving, Kwon-glazed porcelain and Cantonese embroidery. But can you imagine what will happen when these traditional stuff meet with crossover and innovation? Will it be printed with 3D printing software? Or can it be applied in more aspects of our daily life? A crossover innovation platform for traditional arts and crafts products will tell you all about it in the near future.

Co-organized by Information Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, GZLIT, Guangdong Folk Arts Museum, Guangzhou Library and a local newspaper Information Times, the platform was launched at Guangzhou Library on the afternoon Jan. 17, 2017.

It aims to gather resources and people in all walks of life to promote the innovation and activation of intangible cultural heritages and traditional handicrafts in Guangzhou.

Led by the organizers of the platform, tons of activities have been held in 2016 to promote the innovation of Cantonese carvings, Kwon-glazed porcelain and Cantonese embroidery, include forums, exhibitions and competitions.

At the opportunity of Guangzhou to hold the 2017 Global Fortune Forum, Guangdong Folk Arts Museum, one of the organizers of the platform, is going to create a series of cultural and creative products combining intangible cultural heritages to display the image of Guangzhou.

It is said that more newly and innovatively designed products will be put online so that people can easily view or buy them any time any where.

On the same day, an exhibition themed on traditional handicrafts and crossover innovation is inaugurated at the 9th floor of Guangzhou Library. Exhibits include exquisite artifacts of Guangzhou’s intangible cultural heritages and manuscripts of award-winning works of a design competition for Cantonese arts and crafts.

Through this exhibition, not only can you experience the rich and distinctive Lingnan craft culture, you can also have a glimpse of the collision of traditional handicrafts and modern youth’s creative thinking.
