On the morning of October 27, the 2016 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo (2016 MRS-EXPO) staged a grand opening ceremony at the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center in Dongguan.
More than 1,000 honored guests from at home and abroad attended the ceremony, including Mr. Yosiwo P. George, Vice President of Micronesia, Mr. Joe Natuman, Vice Premier of Vanuatu, Mr. Huang Longyun, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong People’s Congress, Mr. Shen Haixiong, Director-general of the Publicity Department of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, and Mr. He Zhongyou, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province.
“The expo is beyond my imagination. I will visit it later and want to see different kinds of things and technologies in China,” said MP Tomker Netvunei from Vanuatu, a Pacific island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean, before the opening ceremony.

Jonas Cullwick, Senior Journalist of Vanuatu Daily Post, told the reporter that he saw a lot of people from all around the world attending the expo which is huge and fantastic. He believed that the Vanuatu delegation could showcase Vanuatu to the world through this expo.
The MRS-EXPO serves as an important bridge to connect China, especially Guangdong with the Belt and Road countries and regions. The 2016 MRS-EXPO is highlighted by more participating countries, more varied products, more splendid supporting activities and more professional services, according to Mr. Lv Yesheng, Deputy Director-general of the 2016 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo and Party Secretary of Dongguan.

After the opening ceremony, guests and visitors flooded into the exhibition center. At the booth of the Tourism Promotion Alliance for China’s Maritime Silk Road, an exotic dance performance attracted crowds of people. Models presented jewelry at the stand of Brazil, drawing a number of people to take photos with them and check out the exhibits. A hot and passionate samba performance grasped the attention of all the people walked by, and the crowd burst into cheers when the samba girls finished their performance.
As the MRS-EXPO is becoming increasingly influential, more and more foreign exhibitors come to seek for business opportunity at the expo which serves as platform for exchange as well.

Pauh Kim Hai, a professional artist from Malaysia, brought some of his Southeast Asian style ink paintings to the expo. He said the expo is a very good platform for him to exchange with artists in China, and he also met some potential buyers in the morning.
“We have got a few enquiries so far. In the next three days, we will also arrange a lot of meetings, so we are hoping for a successful outcome,” said Matt Farley, representative of the Hunter Valley, a very popular destination located north of Sydney, Australia.
Julie Pettit, Director of Sales and Marketing of the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens, also expressed that the expo is a good start and a good launching platform for her to promote the resort and open the market in China.

Ved Mungur, Sales and Marketing Manager of La Chartreuse Tea Manufacturing Co., Ltd. pointed out that many potential clients have come to his booth to taste the herbal tea from Mauritius and he believed he will have some agreements or business by the end of the expo.
