At one of the booths in the Italy Pavilion, an Italian exhibitor named Orazio Pennisi is placing some local snacks from Italy's Sicily on the showcase on the afternoon of October 26. He is making the final preparation for the 2016 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo.
The expo will be inaugurated on October 27 and lasts until October 30 at the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center in Dongguan, Guangdong.
Orazio Pennisi, CEO of Pennisi - La Dolceria Siciliana, said this is his first time to come to the Expo in Dongguan, and he hopes to open the market in China for his products via the Expo.
This is also the first time for the Italy Pavilion to be set up in the Expo. Composed of 63 booths, the Italy Pavilion presents olive oil, red wine, ham, snacks and many other featured products from Italy. The Italian exhibitors will also hold a gourmet tasting salon at the Tourism Culture Exhibition Area of the Expo from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on October 28.
Two other foreign pavilions are also set up in the Expo for the first time, which are the South Africa Pavilion and the Mauritius Pavilion.
The South Africa Pavilion consists of 50 booths and more than 30 enterprises. It mainly exhibits jewelries including gold and diamonds, aloe vera gel, herbal products and handicrafts. Calvin Yan, General Manager of Dongguan Africa Industrial Investment Co., Ltd. which is the organizer of the South Africa Pavilion, told the reporter that all the jewels sold at the Expo have authentication certificates issued by South Africa’s official institutions.
As Zhu Xiaodan, the Governor of Guangdong Province visited South Africa this August and Guangdong has established sister province relationship with South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal, Guangdong and South Africa are going to embrace more opportunities in economic and trade cooperation, said Calvin Yan.
