In the near future, it will be possible to travel from Guangzhou to South East Asian countries by high-speed rail.
Guangzhou will build a comprehensive transportation network,linking South East Asia, according to the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission.
This is in accordance with China's middle and long term rail network construction plan and the country's 13th Five Year Plan from 2016 to 2020.
According to the blueprint, 8 major railway lines with Guangzhou as the core will be built, including 3 connecting to outbound destinations, with the Guangzhou-Guilin-Guiyang-Kunming-South East Asia line, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Line and Guangzhou-Zhuhai Macao line.
The 4 railway stations in Guangzhou will be the major stations for the ambitious scheme, with 4 stations in Foshan, Xintang, Zengcheng and Nansha as the subsidiary stations.
The Guangzhou Railway Station and the Guangzhou East Railway Station will be jointly renovated to be the central railway station, serving as a pivot station for international railway, inter-city railway, subway, long distance passenger bus, downtown bus, taxi and private car services.
The rail network is one of the 10 key investment fields put forward in the 13th Five-Year Plan.Premier Li Keqiang said that China will invest 800 billion yuan in railway construction this year.From 2016 to 2020, China will invest 3.5 to 3.8 trillion yuan in railway construction to build 30,000 kilometers of new railway lines.
