Ecuador roses are no strangers to flower fans and lovers around the world. They have already become well-received gifts in America, Russia, and west Europe markets in the past decades. In China, Guangzhou, as an inclusive international metropolis, provides a fertile ground for these beautiful exotic flowers, and become their main importing city in the country.
In recent years, these overseas flowers add rosy colors to Guangzhou’s diversed life style. Smelling the fragrance of the business potential, sharp-nosed business pioneers and the Ecuador Consulate General in Guangzhou joined hand to introduce the world’s famous roses to the local citizens.
On August 20, when considered as the Chinese version of Valentine’s Day, the Ecuador Consulate General in Guangzhou and the florist Goelia set an 8-meter-longand 2.5-meter- high rose wall with 3000 roses freshly airlift from Ecuador.
The Consul General of Ecuador, Madame Mariella Molina showed up at the scene and talked about how the fresh roses business started and develops in Guangzhou.
Newsgd.com: Chinese “Qixi” Festival plus roses Ecuador, what an interesting combination. How come the Consulate General of Ecuador in Guangzhou came up with this idea?
Madame Molina: We know that many people refer to this day as Chinese Valentine’s Day which made it a good chance to display Ecuador roses. Besides the rose wall, we also work with local artist to design special artworks with the roses.
Newsgd.com: What is special about the roses?
Madame Molina: As you can see there’re roses in measuring cylinder which indicates the extraordinary length of the roses’ stem that could grow to 2 meters long. What also worths mention is that Ecuador roses have impressive huge buds and rich diversities of colors.
Newsgd.com: For special roses like these, is any special attention needed?
Madame Molina: Not at all. They have a extra long blooming span that could last 15 days after cut.
Newsgd.com: I can see you are very proud of your roses. Can you tell me the secret of growing these beautiful roses in Ecuador?
Madame Molina: I would say it is the weather and soil. The low latitude brings longer day and warmer weather, which we call ever-spring climate. We also have volcanoes and snow mountains that provide fertile soils and adequate water. Actually besides these natural conditions, we also have heavy investment on researches.
Newsgd.com: Then, how Chinese, and especially customers in Guangdong, got to know these roses? And since when they started buying them?
Madame Molina: Roses are the fifth exported goods from Ecuador. We started promoting Ecuador roses in Southern China around three years ago when we tried to decorate many activities with our roses.
Newsgd.com: So how does your promotion turn out?
Madame Molina: Now Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing are main markets for the roses in China. Actually, the Consulate General of Ecuador in Guangzhou is actively introducing the special products and business opportunities in our countries. Just in early July, we put on a investment promotion conference in Guangzhou. Ecuador has attractive tax policies for investors, and for tourists, it is also a beautiful place to visit. We welcome Chinese people come to Ecuador to invest or travel.
