Drivers and car owners can enjoy a full range of online services related to vehicles and driver’s licenses offered by registering their phone numbers, ID information and vehicle information through the police WeChat account “szjjwx” as of yesterday.
Three drivers, including the car owner, can register for the same car. A car owner can register for all his cars and two other cars that aren’t under the driver’s name, according to police.
“After registration, phone users can get updated traffic information, make reservations, check traffic violations and pay fines,” Xia Xukun, section chief with the commanding section of Shenzhen traffic police bureau, said at a press conference yesterday.
Xia said police will also put other services online such as renewal of driver’s licenses, renewal or transfer of license plates and driving test reservations.
The car owner can get services related to their cars including reminders of traffic violations, checking driver’s license validity and fine exemptions for first-time violators. Drivers without cars can get services related to their driver’s licenses.
According to related regulations, car owners must register their phone information with police when registering their vehicles.
After registration, police are obliged to inform car owners about their violations within two days through text message.
Starting in November, if drivers don’t handle their vehicle violations in 45 days, their vehicles will be in a state of “driving suspension,” which means drivers will be fined 300 yuan (US$46.89) and have three penalty points added to their licenses.
