Huangpu Customs published Dongguan's foreign trade statistics for the first half of this year on 21st July 2015. The city's foreign trades amounted to 470.04 billion RMB, an increase of 2.9%, of which exports were 291.1 billion RMB, an increase of 9.4% with imports 178.94 billion RMB, down 6.2%. This created a trade surplus of 112.2 billion RMB.
The released data shows that in the first half of this year Dongguan's total imports and exports of processing trade were 286.8 billion RMB, down 5.9%, accounting for 61% of the import and export values. At the same time, the general trade import and exports showed a substantial rise, the total value of which amounted to 148 billion RMB in the first half of 2015, an increase of 21.1%.
As Huangpu Customs pointed out, private enterprise has made a good performance in stimulating foreign trade growth, suggesting that driving forces from within Dongguan's economy continue to strengthen. As regards trading partners, Dongguan maintained a rapid growth in imports and exports to ASEAN. The United States, Hong Kong, ASEAN, and the EU remain the four major trading partners of the city. ASEAN, the United States, and European Union export and import growths are 20.1%, 13% and 6.3%, respectively.
Over the same period, Dongguan's import and export volumes with countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative" area reached 79.95 billion RMB, an increase of 18.8%.
Huangpu Customs said that electromechanical products remained the primary export commodities for Dongguan. In the first half of this year, exports of machinery and electronic products from Dongguan amounted to 200.5 billion RMB, an increase of 3.5%, accounting for 72% of total exports of the city; while imports of machinery and electronic products were 127.3 billion RMB, down 4.5%, and accounting for 75.3% of the total value of foreign trade imports in Dongguan.
Labour-intensive products for export showed rapid growth. In the first half of 2015, the total exports of the seven major types of traditional labour-intensive products including clothing, textile yarn, footwear, plastic products, furniture, toys and luggage totalled 69.22 billion RMB, an increase of 21.7%.
