Iranians donate blood in Guangzhou on traditional mourning day

Commemorating the Day of Ashura, an Iranian religious mourning day, a total number of 50 Iranian citizens living in Guangzhou, donated their blood at Guangzhou Blood Center on 20 September, 2018.

“This annual event marks the friendship between our two countries and is a symbol of sacrifying yourself for the sake of others which is the message of Ashura Day”, said Khalil Shirgholami, Consul General of Iran in Guangzhou, who has also participated in the blood donation.

According to statistic, caucasians have a higher chance of carrying the rare blood type of Rh-negative than Chinese. As a part of rituals, the Iranian community in Guangzhou has organized such blood donation event since the year of 2014 to show their sympathy toward the Chinese who will need blood.
