The 2018 Festival Croisements starts in Guangdong

The official opening of the 2018 Croisements Festival in Guangdong takes place at The Canton Place in Guangzhou on the evening of April 27. The opening ceremony started with a musical and circus performance from the band Circa Tsuica, and included the opening of the interactive photo exhibition France e-Motion.

The Croisements Festival, as always, aims to encourage and develop encounters between the artists and cultural institutions of France and China, and to provide a space in which their mutual creativity can flourish.

This year, the festival’s program includes visual arts, dance and performance, theatre, classical and contemporary music, jazz and contemporary music, cinema, books and ideas, and so on. Most of these projects take place in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan in Guangdong.

Make french cultural tourism a worldwide experience… that is what the exhibition France eMotion, le voyage animé, aims to. This travelling exhibition is the result of a partnership between Atout France and the Institut Français. At the crossroads between photography, AR (Augmented Reality) and digital animation, it takes the viewer for an original and digital tour through 35 great cultural french sites.

FORECASTING is based on a collection of amateur videos taken from the world’s largest video-sharing website: YouTube. The performance uses this framework as a fiction trigger, a store of signs and meanings, a sum of articulations that impose on its visitor / user an exercise in information processing between fragmentary empirical immediacy and hyper abstraction. On the stage, a performer manipulates a laptop on the screen of which are shown YouTube videos that had been selected to meet the human size scale.

At the crossroads between opera, theater, fashion, cinema and dance, the director Laurent Laffargue presents his new visual poem, co-written with Frédéric Kristiansson, and inspired by the thousand years old odysseys who paved the way of the Silk Roads. Les Habits de la Lune takes place somewhere between arts and mythologies, between East and West, at the junction between civilizations. It tells the impossible love of the Moon, for whom a thousand stars won't replace the Sun.

The trio has created a sober and minimalist production with the central objective of ensuring that the music played is a direct reflection of the thoughts of the composer whose creative musings, uninhibited actions, connections to nature and poetic lyricism abound in both his writings and his music.

Made up of musicians from the Radio France orchestras, and leading French soloists, the Philéas Quartet includes a mixture of artists from different backgrounds, instigated by Vincent Dormieu (viola) and the shared desire of the musicians, enamoured by chamber music in all its forms, driven by a willingness to extend it to a wider audience. In just three years, the group Colours in the Street have seen their vibrant pop take over the French scene. During his 2016 Chinese tour, Serge Teyssot-Gay met Xie Yugang in Beijing, a few hours before the sound check for the evening concert. This first improvised concert revealed a common desire to immortalize what was obvious to everybody there that night: a unique musical adventure of rare intensity. The artists quickly agreed on the need for a studio recording and to renew the stage experience with new series of concerts in China and France in 2018.
