In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations, a Sri Lanka Section was opened at the Guangzhou Library on the afternoon of March 23. A photo exhibition showcasing this milestone with historical highlights of the strong bilateral partnership between Sri Lanka and China was also held alongside the event at the same venue.

Shanika Dissanayake, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, stated that the Sri Lanka Section would serve as an enduring legacy, as it is a gift from the Consulate General of Sri Lanka to the people of Guangdong province.

The Sri Lanka section comprises a range of over 250 books based exclusively on works by Sri Lankan authors and is comprehensive in scope. Some of the authors in the collection are also recipients of international literary awards, viz; the Booker prize, Kiriyama Pacific Rim award, the Nikkei Asia Prize and Sri Lanka’s own literary award, the Gratiaen prize.

A replica of a Moonstone was gifted to the Guangzhou Library by Shanika Dissanayake to be placed for public display at the Sri Lanka Section with a description of the replica.

Apart from the Sri Lanka Section and the photo exhibition, many other interesting events about Sri Lanka will also take place at the Guangzhou Library in the following weeks.
