Tales from New Zealand's traditional maori culture read at Children’s Library

Rachel Maidment, Consul General of New Zealand in Guangzhou, shared mystical stories of the unique national characteristic of New Zealand at The Guangzhou Children’s Library on February 18.

The program sought to bring a unique cross-border reading experience to local children and boost cultural exchange between Guangzhou and New Zealand. This is the sixth leg of a series of events themed, "Consuls General Telling Stories," which kicked off in Guangzhou last year.

At the beginning of the event, Maidment donated a batch of children's books printed in New Zealand to the library. In return, she was given a Guangzhou library card. Then she introduced the Maori culture of her country with lots of beautiful pictures as well as interesting video.

What’s more, Maidment told an interesting legend, “How Maui slowed the sun," to the audience. Her two daughters also taught traditional Maori dance to Chinese children who attended.
