The coming World Italian Language Week will begin on October 19 and is set to run until October 24, featuring a whole range of activities revolving around the Italian language and culture. This year's theme is "Music in Italian, Italian language in music."
World Italian Language Week is an Italian language and cultural promotion organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held since 2001. This year it is co-organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou, the EMG Gallery and Guangdong University of Foreign Affairs.
This year's events will bring a jazz musician, a world renowned Italian songwriter, Ivano Fossati, to town.He is the father of Italina songwriting. During his visit to Guangzhou, he will also present his latest novel, “335," on October 24 at EMG Gallery.
Another highlight will be a theatrical performance, "Happy Goldoni," presented by actress Mercedes Martini and the double and electric bass player, Riccardo Barbera. It is a tribute to the 18th century Italian playwright and librettist, Carlo Goldoni. The play celebrates Goldoni as a revolutionary, a writer, a lawyer, and a humanist. The performance will also be staged at EMG Gallery on October 24.
