Dulan recovering after surgery.
On the arrival of the family, Li and his staff had prepared all the daily necessities the family would need during their stay and brought a rice cooker and materials for the family to cook Sri Lankan food.
During the past several months, Dulan and his parents experienced many “China firsts” at the hospital. They experienced thier first Chinese New Year, Dulan’s first birthday in China and Children’s Day in China.
Li also asked his staff to learn Sri Lankan customs. During festivals, they often prepared gifts and greeting cards for Dulan. They even held a birthday party for the child before his surgery. They also put together a book in Chinese, English and Sri Lankan to help the family communicate with the staff.
Zhang Liu, who worked extensively with Dulan, became Dulan’s friend.
“Dulan even told his mom, when he goes back to Sri Lanka, he will take me with him,” said Zhang.
