A multilingual talent
Fassir and her friend Rumi
For children born in a multicultural family, learning language could be a special experience.
“I speak Italian to her and my husband speaks Arabic. The baby-sitter talks with her in Chinese. In the kindergarten, they speak English. She could say she ‘knows’ four different languages now.”
However, for a child, growing in such complex language environment could be a troublesome happiness.
"Fortunatly, Fassir doesn't mix them. I think it is because I insist on talking with her with Italian - my mother tongue so she is easy to learn. Based on the mother tongue, she could identify other languages but not mix them."
