117th Canton Fair ended on May 5th. The trade with countries along One Belt and One Road region has become a highlight, with 80,954 purchasing agents attending. Many Cantonese entrepreneurs indicated that “One Belt and One Road” has brought new business opportunities for them, according to Nanfang Daily.
Business between Guangdong and OBOR countries prosperous
Liu Jianjun, the spokesman of Canton Fair, introduced that about half of the 117th Canton Fair purchasing agents are from OROB countries. Purchasing agents from Pakistan has increased drastically by 72.13%.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce of China on April 28th, the business between Guangdong and OBOR countries is prosperous. The trade volume between Guangdong and OBOR key countries in the first quarter of 2015 went up 6.5 percent to 27.8 billion USD, covering 12.9% of Guangdong’s foreign trade volume. The direct investment from Guangdong to OBOR key countries hit 164 million USD, up 134.4%.
Guangdong Silk-Tex Group thought high of the business opportunities behind OROB, starting to deploy oversea manufacturing bases and service networks based on their business partners from more than 180 countries and districts in 2014. Their trade volume hit 1.374 billion USD in the first quarter of 2015, up 7.55%.
Cosun group, a company focusing on smart-phones manufacture, also turned their eyes from weak European and American markets to the market on OBOR countries. “In recent years we focused on Southeast Asian countries as our main market, with increasing rate of more than 10% in 3 years.” Li Huazhi, the head of sales in Cosun group, introduced that some OBOR countries has strong demand on cheaper cellphones. One of the most popular cellphone in Southeast Asian countries pricing 30 dollars has the yearly sales amount of hundreds of thousands. “We even had more than 100 purchasing agents asking for price every day during this Canton Fair.”
Zhang Keyu, the manager of the international business department in Midea Group, also agreed this. He said that due to more business opportunities OBOR has brought, Midea’s sales in Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa increased drastically, and Midea is planning to build factories in some OBOR countries.
Luxell, a Turkish cooperation producing kitchen wares, was welcomed by purchasing agents in Canton Fair International Pavilion. An official taking charge in international business introduced that “more than 200 buyers came to our booth and inquire about our products, most of whom were from OBOR countries”.
