All trade unions in Guangzhou will send representatives to visit workers from needy workers and needy families of "model workers" during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday and will bring gifts to them, the Guangzhou Federation of Trade Unions announced on January 28. The organization also released the visitation plans.
As planned, during the Lunar New Year holiday, each of the 1,327 registered families in financial difficulty will receive a subsidy of RMB700 and a gift worth RMB100. A total of RMB 1,061,600 will be distributed. Before the Lunar New Year, each of the national, provincial and municipal "model workers" will be given a subsidy, with a total of RMB 1,291,300 to be distributed. Trade unions at all levels will visit "model workers" who are struggling to make a living or living in poverty due to illness.
Unlike previous years, this year officials will also visit medical workers on the frontline of disease control and treatment. The Guangzhou Federation of Trade Unions will arrange for 500 such workers to go on rest and recreation at the city's No. 2 Workers' Sanatorium. Additionally, the Federation and grassroots trade unions plan to distribute 100,000 complimentary movie tickets to frontline workers and to organize cultural shows for workers at grassroots enterprises and on construction sites and farms.
Statistics show that the Federation allocated RMB 5 million last year to finance the physical examinations of 50,000 frontline workers last year as part of the three "bring warmth" service programs.
