“China is the best…We start cooperation. We have some exchange programs with China. China is with great opportunities and we should know more about China.”
Because of the simple words from their mentor, two Polish girls embarked on a journey into the unknown, towards Guangzhou, a metropolis of southern China.
“We know almost nothing about Guangzhou before. We know Canton only about the Canton Fair, but we have never attended.”
Kristina and Kasia are exchange students from University of Szczecin who are now studying in an MBA program in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). As their motherland Poland is establishing a better relation with China, they decide to start oversea study life in China, for a bright future.
“In Poland it is very common if you go studying abroad. But most of them would choose to study in some European countries so we come here to see what’s the different.” said Kasia.
“And we would have much more opportunities when the employers find we have studied in China because it can prove we are open-minded, we can speak English well, and we are willing to accept something new.” added by Kristina.
In these years, China shares a close relationship with Poland as well as the European Union (EU). In last year, the export volume from China to Poland increased by 1.5% while the import rose by 12%. Poland is now the largest trading partner for China in Eastern Europe. It is in this circumstance that people from both of the two countries desire to know each other more.
“We once gave a presentation about Poland in a culture exchange event. At first we thought no one would be interested on it, but we received warm applaud afterwards and many Polish-speakers came to talk with us. It really gave us a big surprise! And we also amazed that the GDUFS has set up the Polish language major.”
