Bertrand's tenure as CG in Guangzhou will last around three years, give or take an extra year or two. During this time, he'll be responsible not only for economic cooperation between France and Guangdong, but also human exchanges on both sides as well as exchanges in various fields, such as the sciences and arts.
'I have been to China before…but this is my first time in Guangzhou. I appreciate the climate and the green environment of the city. Besides there is the right balance between tradition, if you go to Shamian Island, and the modern architecture in Zhujiang new town.
During my first visits I was also impressed by the very dynamic city of Shenzhen."
In 2015, Bertrand hopes to increase efforts on cultural promotion as it coincides with France's 'cross-culture' festival 10 year anniversary.
'The idea is to organise the events to cross visions between French and Chinese artists…So I think that in 2015 for the 10th year of this festival Croisements (cross-culture) we'll try to have a very attractive programme.'
This year the program of events to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Diplomatic ties between France and China anniversary included a large variety of exhibitions and forums.
'For instance this November we will have a conference by a former Administrator of the Museum of the "Compagnie des indes" on the cultural influence of China in France during the 17th and 18th centuries.
'Cannes' will also be coming back to Guangdong next year as the Consulate plan to host another French Film Festival called Panorama. Usually held in Shenzhen, the event showcases a variety of subtitled iconic French films.
'We hope to bring French culture through movies to not only French citizens here, but anyone who is interested in French culture'.
So as you see our cooperation covers a very broad landscape and I'm interested to be equally active in these matters.'
France is seeing a generous increase in the number of Chinese tourists!
