Guangzhou Mayor Chen Jianhua met with a delegation of the Sri Lanka Local Governments Association, headed by Ratnapura Mayor Kapila Abeyrathne, in his office on the afternoon of July 1. Both sides had a pleasant conversation on history, culture, cooperation, exchanges, and economic and trade ties.
Mayor Chen extended a warm welcome to Mr. Abeyrathne and his associates and briefed them on Guangzhou's development in recent years. He said that Guangzhou and Sri Lanka have a long-standing friendship and that the two cities will increase cooperation and exchanges in the economy, trade, tourism, culture and many other sectors. He also stated that Guangzhou will encourage local enterprises to invest in Sri Lanka and welcome Sri Lanka businesses to procure goods from the many large-scale wholesale markets in Guangzhou and to introduce their products to Guangzhou.
Mr. Abeyrathne made positive comments on Guangzhou's economic growth and urban development and extended an invitation to Guangzhou people to tour or invest in his country.
The visit was the first one by the Sri Lanka Local Governments Association, with the delegation consisting of 27 mayors.
Guangzhou Vice Mayor Luo Weifeng was present at the meeting.
