Located in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta and about 110km northeast of Guangzhou, Kaiping is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. It is also a cradle of architecture, culture and arts. In recent years, it has attracted more and more tourists with its unique architecture - Watchtower Houses.

Emigration started from this city as early as the 14th century. People went to places across the world from Guangzhou. So far, it has already exported 750,000 overseas Chinese, covering 67 countries and regions such as the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.

Kaiping Watchtower Houses can be traced back to late Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644 ). At that time kaiping was in poor social security with rampant bandits as it bordered four counties: Xinhui, Taishan, Xinxing and Enping.
