【Case】Swindlers Sent ‘Prize’ to Foreigners, Defrauding more than One Million Yuan

Between Feb. 2011 and Mar. 2012, three suspects, Liang, Wu and Lin, defrauded foreigners in Liuzhou, by sending fraudulent website of a company, booklets and coupons for prize draw to the foreigners whom were searched on the Internet. Subsequently, they received millions of money by remittances of the poundage for getting the prize and the membership fees made by the foreigners who believed they have wined a prize. Receiving the report from those defrauded foreigners, the policemen from Liuzhou Bureau of Public Security investigated the case and eventually arrested the suspects on 1st Apr. 2012 and 5th Apr. 2012 respectively.

After hearing, the Liunan District People’s Court considered that, Liang, Wu and Lin, who used fraudulent facts and hidden the truth to defraud and possess others’ properties with a huge amount of money, should be convicted of fraud. As the chief criminal, Liang was sentenced to five years and six months imprisonment, and was imposed a penalty of RMB 80,000, whereas Wu and Lin were sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment, with a penalty of RMB 20,000.
