Shanghai has won the final approval from China’s State Council to set up a pilot free trade zone. The free trade zone spans 28.78 square kilometers in Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Waigaoiao Free Trade Logistics Park, Yangshan Free Trade Port Area and Pudong Airport Free Trade Zone.

The pilot zone is a crucial move in adapting to global economic and trade development. It is expected to help China explore a new path for opening to international trade, speed up transformation of government functions, promote the reform of the administrative system, upgrade the means for economic development and optimize economic structures. The goal is to gather experience and apply it in other parts of country for the overall growth.
