| Guangdong was expected to realize 3.57 trillion yuan in GDP in 2008 with a year-on -year growth of 10.1 percent, Guangdong's Party Secretary Wang Yang said at the four plenary session of the tenth Guangdong CPC Committee yesterday (Jan. 5).

The meeting opened in Guangzhou on January 5, and will last two and a half days. The meeting had a review of 2008, and planed the work focuses in 2009 to assure a stable and sustainable development.
According to Wang, in 2008, the financial revenue from Guangdong reached 847 billion Yuan, up by 9.3 %; the foreign trade totaled 686.2 billion USD, up by 8.2%, and the fixed assets investment rose to 1118 billion Yuan, up to 16.5%.
The urban and rural residents were expected to earn a 12% and 14 % income increase respectively.
To the end of November, the financial institutions鈥 deposit and loan balances of RMB and foreign currencies totaled 5.51 trillion Yuan and 3.32 trillion Yuan respectively, increased by 14.5% and 10.1 % than the end of 2007.
In the first half year of 2008, the per unit GDP energy consumption dropped 8.91%, and the SO2 and chemical oxygen demands decreased by 4.48% and 3.08% respectively, said Wang.

The four plenary session of the tenth Guangdong CPC Committee聽is held 聽in Guangzhou on January 5-7.
鈥淢aintaining a stable and relatively fast economic growth is the priority of the government鈥檚 work in 2009鈥, said Governor Huang Huahua at the meeting.
Huang said the government鈥檚 work will focus in the following ten aspects:
1. Expanding the domestic demand to push the consumption and economy development
2. Accelerating the building of modern industry system and pushing the upgrade of industry structure.
3. Promoting the industry and labor transfer to coordinate the regional development.
4. Supporting the growth of SMEs
5. Enhancing independent innovation capacity and international competitiveness.
6. Maintaining stable foreign trade development
7. Developing agriculture and rural economics, increasing farmers鈥 income.
8. Saving energy and protecting the environment
9. Furthering the reform in key areas
10. Improving people鈥檚 livelihood and maintaining the stabilization of the society
