Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together
Guangdong and Germany have closer relations in recent years. The trade turnover between Guangdong and Germany reached 16 billion USD in 2007, up 15% than the previous year. Germany has an investment of 1.5 billion USD in 296 projects in Guangdong, according to Liu Xiaojie, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Government in a press conference held in Setp.26th.
"Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together" is a motto under which Germany will promote itself from 2007 to 2010, in a series of regional cities across China as an active economic partner country, a cultural nation steeped in tradition and a modern location for education, research and investment.
The aim is to showcase Germany in all its diversity as an innovative and attractive country with a rich tradition, foster Sino-German dialogue, and promote Chinese interest in Germany and vice versa. Most of the projects during the German Weeks in each city will thus be joint Sino-German undertakings. A key theme of all events in the campaign developed by the Goethe-Institut is "Cities in Motion".
This most wide-ranging event series ever implemented by Germany abroad is under the lead management of the Foreign Office, which is cooperating with the Goethe Institute, the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and the Marketing fur Deutschland GmbH, along with 'Official Partners' Allianz, BASF, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, DHL and Siemens.
German chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel opened the event series on 27 August 2007 in Beijing. The event is scheduled to land in Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shengyang, Wuhan, Changchun and Shanghai.
"Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together" enjoys the joint patronage of Germany's Federal President Horst Kohler and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
