The 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress started its first session on January 17 in Guangzhou.
Governor Huang Huahua delivered the Provincial Government Work Report at the opening session this morning. The GDP of Guangdong Province reached 3060.6 billion RMB in 2007, up 14.5 percent year on year, surpassed that of Taiwan, and the target of 2008 is an increase of about 9 percent. The CPI growth in 2008 is expected to control under 4 percent, and the urban per capita disposable income will rise 9 percent, keep pace with the growth of GDP.

There are six major items tabled for deliberation in the conference.
1. The Guangdong provincial government report
2. 2007 economic and social performance, draft of economic and social development plan 2008
3. 2007 fiscal performance, draft of financial budget 2008
4. Work report of Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress
5. Work report of High People's Court of Guangdong Province
6. Work report of Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate
As this is the fist session within its five-year term, the congress will elect new leadership for the 11th provincial Committee of the People's Congress. The leadership includes Standing Committee members, Governor, Vice-Governors, Chief Judge of High People's Court of Guangdong and Procurator-General of Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate. Deputies to present the 11th National people鈥檚 congress will also be elected.
