A Canadian Novelist singing ancient Hakka folk songs, a handicapped boy fighting for his 2008 Olympics dream鈥uch two stories deeply touched the judges of the 鈥淒ay of Guangdong鈥 event of the 2007 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival and won the Golden Award.
Many people in the world may now using made-in-Guangdong goods or wearing made-in-Guangdong garments and shoes. However, not many people in the world had ever seen what Guangdong looks today with their own eyes, even on big or small screen.
The province, in recent years, with an aim to introduce its rapid social and economic development and the reserved local history and culture to more people in the world, has encouraged the local television stations, film makers as well as individual video fans to record what is happening within the province with their video recorders.

And today (Dec 4) the Provincial Radio, Film and Television Administration and the Provincial News Office co-held a ceremony to honor the best local-made documentaries. Lin Xiong, Director General of Guangdong Provincial Department of Publicity, Jin Delong, Director General of Publicity Management Division of State Radio, Film and Television Administration, Yang Jian, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Department of Publicity, Li Shoujin, Deputy Director General Guangdong Provincial Department of Publicity and Chen Yizhu, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Radio, Film and Television Administration attended the ceremony.
The outstanding television documentary columns were also honored on the ceremony.
Besides the awards, the participants, from provincial television stations, city-level television stations and foreign counterparts, such as KBS from South Korea, had exchanges on the documentary making and the overseas promotion of the province. And the speakers urged to form a 鈥淪outh-China-school鈥 of documentary making.
