The annual China Hi-tech Fair opened yesterday in Shenzhen, with the announcement of the opening by Jiang Zhenhua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zong-heng said in an opening speech that the fair is a feast for high-tech industries from all of China's inland provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.
According to Guangzhou Daily, the fair organizer focuses on encouraging the domestic and oversea companies to display their new products and research on clean energy, recyclable resource, environment protection, information, modern biology and pharmacy.
According to the organizers, apart from 700 domestic participants, more than 20 countries have sent delegations to the fair. According to Shenzhen Daily, American exhibitors are among a large number of first-time exhibitors at the fair, and have high hopes of what they can achieve.
The U.S. pavilion boasts more than 10 well-known American multinational companies, including General Electric (GE), Motorola, Oracle, Dell, and International Business Machines (IBM).
New faces at this year's fair are a 22-member delegation from the German state of Hessen, led by Klaus-Peter Gutller, the state's vice minister of Economy and Transportation.
