Guangzhou metro ticket machines stop accepting 20-yuan notes today, the 5-yuan and 10-yuan notes are still accepted. The metro company explains that as the four metro lines in the city has 1.39 million passengers per day now and the ticket machines are always in short of coins. As the shortage can not be eased in short term, so the company decides to stop accepting 20-yuan notes.

The company encourages the local residents to use the Yangchengtong transportation card by offering a 5 percent off discount. Using the transportation card can also saves the passengers times in buying tickets. Statistics show in September, only 47.9 percent passengers used Yangchengtong in metro in September.
