Although Guangdong produced a total of 196.16 million ton (standard coal) of energy sources in 2006, an 11 percent increase over the previous year, the products can only meet 20 percent of the province鈥檚 need, according to the provincial Statistics Bureau.
Guangdong is short of primary energy sources and low in energy self-reliance. The province has to bring in energy sources to meet the huge demands.
Statistics showed Guangdong bought 179.5 million ton (standard coal) of energy sources in 2006, 129.05 million ton of which were from other provinces of China and 50.45 million ton from overseas.
An analyst from the Provincial Statistics Bureau said the industrial sector is the largest consumer of energy sources, occupied 66.8 percent of the total. To solve the current problem, Guangdong should optimize its industry structure, advance and promote energy-saving technology and strengthen the supervision on large energy-consume industry.
