Guangdong will start a new examination of its main pollution sources and issue new certificates to qualified examiners, said Li Qing, Director of Guangdong Environment Protection Bureau in a meeting. In 2006, Guangdong invested 60 billion RMB in environment protection and this was the fifth consecutive year for the province to use over 2.5 percent of its total GDP on environ-mental improvement.
In 2007, pollution control tops Guangdong's environment protection work chart. According to the province's plan, the capacity of its thermal power plants with flue gas de-sulfurization technology will exceed 20 million kwh this year; while the mid and large-size power generators have to add de-sulfurization equipment by 2008. In 2009, the province will close all its small generators and all new generators need to install flue gas de-sulfurization equipment.
Guangdong will start a new examination of its pollution sources. By 2008, Guangdong will launch an online monitoring system covering main pollution sources, sewage treatment plants and power plants. A mechanism on pollution data collection, check and release will be established and the province will release its 21 cities main pollution indexes every half year to the public.聽
