Ministry of Communications and Guangdong Provincial Government passed a blueprint of Foshan port yesterday (July 23), which symbolizes the province is speeding up the construction of transportation system.
According to the blueprint, Foshan port, one of the important river ports of Guangdong, is planed to handle over 110 million tons of goods in the year 2010, and 150 million tons in 2020. The port is expected to be a vital economic strive of Foshan city and even cities around Pearl River Delta.
Guangdong has witness a surge in transportation investment which was sparked after Guangdong government officials initiated a strategy in July 2006, for developing the construction of the transportation system.
In the first half of this year, Guangdong has finished an investment of 21.431 billion RMB in transportation infrastructure, up 37.86 percent year-on-year, and investment in port construction rose 82.33 percent.
To the end of 2006, the province had built 3340 kilometers of expressway, and another 1149.2 kilometers are under construction, according to the statistics from Guangdong Transportation and Communications Department.
