A grand ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the Eighth National University Games in Guangzhou yesterday. This games was the biggest sport gala for China's universities in terms of the number of participants and sport events.
A total of 6,000 athletes from 34 delegations across the country will vie for 225 medals in 12 competitive events, including athletics, swimming, basketball and wushu.

China is attached much attention on the youth's health. This event plays a vital role in encouraging students to have more sports and promoting improvement of the university's sports facilities, said Zhou ji, Minister of Education. Zhang Dejiang, Party Secretary of Guangdong Province attended the opening ceremony, and Chen Zhili, member of the State Council of China, declared the open of the event.
