Various national troupes from Russia will present different versions of classical ballet “Swan Lake” in Shenzhen at different venues this winter.
“Swan Lake” is a ballet composed by Tchaikovsky in 1875-1876. The scenario was initially in four acts. The choreographer of the original production was Julius Reisinger. The ballet premier was performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877 in Moscow. Although there are now many different versions, most ballet companies base their stagings, both choreographically and musically, on the 1895 revival of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, first staged for the Imperial Ballet in 1895, at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
