Due to its appearance like a yellow cloth, it is also called Huang Bu (yellow cloth) egg. The interesting thing is - Huangpu and Huang Bu have the same pronunciation in Cantonese - Wong4 Bou3.

黄埔蛋是华南地区广东的一款价廉物美的汉族传统名菜,状如一块光亮金黄的布,因出自黄埔(古代海上丝绸之路发祥地之一)船民之手,故名之。特别的是,黄埔和黄布在粤语中的发音是一样的。

Once upon a time, Huangpu was a beach where gather a lot of fishmen. One day evening, a person visited his fishman friend without any notification,therefore, this fishman can only use an egg to serve the guest, since he didn’t have enough time to buy foods. Due to impatient, the egg was cooked neither like sliding egg nor fried egg. However, the guest gave highly praise on the egg after he tasted it.

据说很早以前,黄埔一带仍是一片滩涂。某天傍晚,一船民家里突然来了客人,一时之间来不及买菜,只好用仅剩的几只鸡蛋来招待客人,心急之下烹成既不像炒滑蛋又不像煎蛋的款式奉上,虽然是两不像,但客人品尝之下极为赞赏。

After other chefs' improvement, this egg dish has been becoming one of the famous dishes in Guangdong area. It is said that former president of Replica of China - Chang Kai-Shek (蒋介石) really like this dish.

经过其他厨师的改良,黄埔蛋逐渐成为广东地区的一道名菜。噢!对了!听说连前民国总统蒋介石也很喜欢吃噢。
