This October welcomes back the coolest season of the year, replacing the hot summer days with a comfortable autumn breeze. It doesn't matter whether you are a local resident or just a visitor; the carnival-like Oktoberfest will definitely have something for you. There is a full calendar of outdoor activities, which come at a perfect time for this enjoyable weather.
The Oktoberfest is a celebration very much enjoyed by the people of Germany. This festive event is a time of beer and delightful barbeques, where one can relax and experience some of the finest foods associated to the country.
Guangzhou will celebrate this special month by offering Oktoberfest buffets throughout certain hotels in October and November. The Langham Place, Guangzhou, will certainly be a hotel to lookout for, as they will have a fantastic selection of Paulaner draught beer and mouth-watering barbequed pork chops. The Oktoberfest cuisines will run until November 5, which will be on display in their semi-outdoor restaurant Alfresco.
Another hotel that is known to celebrate this German tradition is the China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel which is now entering its 10th year hosting the event. Not only will authentic German food and beer be on offer, there will also be music from The Munchner Musikanten Band, which will add a further buzz to the occasion. The FTC Mall will be transformed into a venue of entertainment, which will run from October 16-25.
The Partypier, home to the Zhujiang beer production and exotic bars, will become a paradise of beer, music and food. From October 1 to November 1, a tent will be set up in the multi-functional hall of the zone. This tent will provide an energetic atmosphere and ambience that will make this Oktoberfest one to remember.
The British School of Guangzhou will be hosting ‘International Day 2014’ on Saturday, November 1. Amongst the backdrop of a beautiful lakeside view, the family event will offer food and beverages, live music, family games and a prize draw.
During November, the government will build a neon-light city on the Pearl River. The Guangzhou International Lighting Festival will light up Haixinsha Park, Huacheng Square and 9 bridges situated on the river. This wonderful display of colour will begin from November 1, continuing throughout certain periods. The opening night will be a special one, as famous musicians and dancers all the way from France will be invited to celebrate the 50th year of Sino-France diplomatic relations. However, last year was a bit of a nightmare experience as a crowd of visitors made the viewing very hectic. It would probably be a good idea to appreciate the lights after the opening, as you will be much more relaxed and free to soak up their beauty.
If you are unable to sign up for the 2014 Guangzhou Marathon, which will be held on November 23, you can still contribute by showing your support and cheering on the participants. The competition will be organized around Huacheng Square, Tianhe Sports Center and the Pazhou region.
If you don't happen to be a lover of sport, have no fear. The newly launched tramcar is running on the over-ground rail, allowing visits to Pazhou Pagoda, Canton Fair Complex, Huanan Bridge, Liede Bridge and Yiyuan Dong Road.
