The annual reading carnival - South China Book Festival - will launch its grand opening August 15 at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center.
The free exhibition not only displays about 350,000 books and stationery items, often at great discount, but also will feature more than 300 lectures delivered by some 200 contemporary Chinese writers. The exhibition will include five major parts: Guangzhou books; children's books; Hong Kong, Taiwanese and overseas books; private publishers' books; and a section for digital publishing, animation and stationery. All books in the exhibition will enjoy a minimum of 20 percent discount, and those in the discounted books section will offer discounts of 60 percent to 70 percent.
Many well-known Chinese writers - including Tibetan writer A Lai and Taiwanese writer Giddens Ko - as well as Taiwanese actor and singer Jimmy Lin and a number of famous scholars will deliver lectures.
The state-owned book importer, China National Publications Import and Export Corporation, will join hands with local libraries to lend selected premium hard-cover books in the exhibition room to the visitors at no cost.
The organizer will provide 200 trolleys for visitors to shop in the book fair. However, unlike at previous book fairs, the organizer will not provide free metro tickets for visitors.
A newly added Malaysia Pavilion will hold a special drawing for 5,000 visitors each day to win a tour package, worth RMB 15,000, for the upcoming Chinese Book Fair in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
