Forest Fringe, an award-winning community of artists who have created dazzling and unusual work at the Edinburgh Festival and beyond, is coming to Guangzhou. The group was founded in 2007 as a totally independent, not-for-profit space in which experimentation and adventure were cherished and supported. It is now a unique combination of writers, dramatists, musicians, dancers and live artists.
As a project of the China-UK Cultural Exchange Year 2015, Forest Fringe is coming to Guangzhou, as well as to Beijing and Shanghai, with a program called “Co-presence,” for two-day residencies this summer. You’ll have a chance to experience some of the creative, collaborative spirit that has made the group’s regular appearances in Edinburgh such a hit with artists and audiences alike.
Each show will be a miniature festival in itself, creating a space that offers both artists and audiences a different kind of opportunity – the chance to come together collectively, contributing time and energy to make exciting, improbable, spectacular things happen. Andy Field, a co-director of Forest Fringe, said the group tries to serve as a bridge, discovering imaginative ways to connect innovative performance artists and theatre makers with new audiences, new supporters and new contexts for their work. For them Forest Fringe remains an experiment, a creative project defined by the same kind of adventurousness and unpredictability that troupe members love in the artists they work with.
Venue: Guangzhou Times Museum
