"Personal Record - Natalie Wooi Solo Exhibition" will be held from March 28 to April 21 at the Kui Yuan Gallery.
Natalie Wooi was born in UK and graduated from the London Guildhall University, earning a BA with honors in 1999.
By examining biological processes and specimens, she is inspired by the way science stores and records information - from astronomy to biology to chemistry. She has adopted a museum-like practice of collecting and documenting, labelling and using illustrations to complement botanical drawings. At the same time, she also tries to convey the idea of traditionalism through illustrative components (science) mixed with fluid, organic stokes of the brush (art), thus helping the viewer to see these seemingly opposing fields as one.
Her work is essentially a record of her consciousness. Like life, it is imperfect, melancholy, impersonal and personal all at once. It is happy and delighted, yet fragile and fleeting.
Through this exhibition, through Natalie's personal record, viewers are able to intensify their experience of life using art, observing and thinking about their growth and transformation, and using this collection as a study for life.
