After several successful albums, Radiohead released their latest effort last month under a certain amount of pressure from both fans and media. It's obvious that they are very aware of this and have tried to answer questions with their music.
The first track is a piece called Backdrifts. The dance-inspiring electronic drum rhythm is a toe-tapper. The next track, We Suck Young Blood, starts off fairly quiet and slow. Just after the halfway point a sudden series of piano chords takes over. You have to admire their talents for teasing the listeners. This track really seems to sum up the CD and perhaps even their entire career since the end of the OK Computer (the band's most classic album) era.
The final four tracks are all quite listenable. In A Punchup at a Wedding, the listener can enjoy some amazing piano chords. Myxomatosis is worth a few repeated listens. Scatterbrain sounds nice and autumnal as its alternative title (As Dead As Leaves) suggests. A Wolf at the Door is possibly one of the best tracks ending with the sort of piano progression fans have been hoping for.
It is accepted that Radiohead is the greatest and most successful band after Nirvana in the field of alternative rock music.
