WHEN a huge platinum ring, weighing at two kilograms, arrived at the 4th Shenzhen International Jewelry Fair this month, it signified that the glittering gala not only summarized China’s jewelry design work this year, but also marked China as a shining jewelry design trendsetter -- both at home and abroad.

    Notable international and local brands from 21 countries and regions and other cities in China demonstrated their products, emphasizing simplicity in diamonds, versatility in gold and energy in crystal.

    Diamonds

    Diamonds are the king of the jewelry world. In the film How to Marry a Millionaire, Marilyn Monroe sang "Diamonds are a girl's best friend." In ancient times, Europeans believed that diamonds were the tears of the gods dropping from the earth to the sky. To them, diamonds symbolized pure and everlasting matters.

    Jewelries embedded with tiny diamonds, which are popular in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan, were featured at the fair. An African-style gold bead necklace embedded with tiny diamonds was a glittering example showcasing the jewels. Perfectly complementing the necklace, a pair of double-pendant gold and diamond earrings created a luxurious and fashionable look.

    Another luxurious necklace, with four tiny diamonds forming the four petals of each flower, became the queen of the show's diamond group.

    Gold

    As fall and winter approach, gold is expected to remain trendy. This year's gold jewelry designs brought fresh air to the jewelry world. Due to its versatility and beauty, gold has always been the favorite of jewelry designers. Knitting, frills, paillettes and nets in gold jewelries set trends for fashion by perfectly combining gold's basic touch with artistic lines. Such designs remind people of their good old memories of gold many years ago.

    This year's most popular design pattern featured gold threads knitted into necklace and bracelet ropes with frills on the ends, all of which complement a charming lady's gentle sway. Available in a variety of colors and bold designs, and at reasonable prices, they are certain to touch customers' hearts.

    Gold and platinum

    Combining materials, these luxurious metals add glamor to jewelry this season. An unclosed bead with one half of gold and the other half of platinum immediately creates a style of one's own.

    Colorful crystal

    This year, as seen at the fair, it is clear that crystals will play a rather important part in life of women in cosmopolitan cities.

    A gorgeous crystal pendant on a necklace sent off an atmosphere of energetic beauty. To go with the colors, accessories like silk threads and feathers are a good choice to stand out in a crowd.

    A range of inspirational styles with themes like stars, planets, animals, and plants provide customers with a variety of ways to discover their own unique styles.
