The largest single commercial building in Shenzhen so far, Jinguanghua Plaza, opened Saturday (Nov 20).
Erected on the former site of the South China Movie City in the busy Renminnan business area, the 120,000 sqm building has seven floors above ground with a variety of clothing stores, restaurants and other recreational facilities. There are three floors underground for parking. The second floor underground connects with a Metro station, which will be opened for service soon.
Qiu Zhidong, CEO of the plaza, said more than 500,000 people were lured to Renminnan on every Saturday while the average passenger flow in the area was 300,000.
Another shopping mall owned by the Hong Kong-based China Resources Company (CRC) in Caiwuwei near Diwang Mansion is expected to open later this year. Covering a total construction area of 550,000 sqm, the HK$4 billion (US$506 million) mall will be the largest commercial complex in South China.
