BAO'AN police recently arrested the alleged ringleader of an illegal pyramid sales group, the Daily Sunshine reported Wednesday.
The man, surnamed Gao, 32, is from Shandong Province and was the highest ranking person of all those arrested for pyramid sales activities in Guangdong Province.
The man has been sent to the procuratorate for prosecution, the report said.
Gao allegedly registered a company in Zhuhai and employed about 900 people for illegal sales in Zhuhai and Shenzhen.
Bao'an police arrested five men who were conducting pyramid sales in Songgong in Bao'an District and found they were employed by Gao's company.
The police immediately went to Gao's company in Zhuhai but found he had already fled. The police learned Gao's whereabouts and arrested him at a rented house in Jingtian in Futian District.
Gao's company was allegedly conducting illegal sales mainly in Longhua, Shiyan and Songgong, selling stainless steel tableware, kettles and health care products.
