A LEISURE bar street containing book bars, Internet cafes, tea bars, Western-style restaurants and DIY Karaokes, is being planned for the busy Huaqiangbei commercial area of Shenzhen.
A total of 10 million yuan (US$1.2 million) would be spent on the reconstruction of the street based on the No. 3 Road and Jinghua Road near the compound of electronics manufacturer Jing Wah, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The street would border Zhenzhong Road in the south and Zhenhua Road in the north, the newspaper said.
The management committee of the Huaqiangbei area said a feasibility study had been submitted to the government.
A sign for the bar street had been put up at the intersection of Zhenhua Road during the Spring Festival holidays, the newspaper said.
Various styles of bars would be established on the first and second floors of the buildings in the street. Parking lots would be put on the third to sixth floors to accommodate more than 200 cars.
An spokesperson in charge of the project said the location was quite suitable as many popular shopping venues nearby could create a stable customer flow.
The Huaqiangbei area realized more than 20 billion yuan in sales during the past vacation week, despite the electronic markets being closed for the week, the paper said. Inexpensive clothes made in Shenzhen were popular with many tourists from inland regions, and home appliances also sold well.
