Swiss mogul Roger Federer is set to play his first hometown tennis tournament since 2003 after triumph at the Madrid Masters last weekend.
The Swiss Indoors Tennis Open that is to be staged at Basel, Switzerland, will witness a happy homecoming for Federer after beating Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 on Sunday to win his first career title in Spain at the Madrid Masters.
While the Chilean, defending champion of the Swiss tournament, might pull out of his defending campaign pending his right arm injury suffered at the Masters.
Federer has not starred at home since 2003 and was on crutches a year ago after he sprained his ankle in practice.
The world number one opens against a qualifier, as does second seed David Nalbandian of Argentina, whom Federer crushed with straight sets in the Madrid semi-finals.
World number two Rafael Nadal from Spain has skipped the event for personal reasons.
