Myanmar will participate in the second World Traditional Wushu Championships in China, according to the Myanmar Wushu Federation (MWF) Saturday (Oct 7th).

A total of nine Myanmar wushu athletes -- five men and four women, will compete in the championships scheduled on Oct. 14-20 in Zheng Zhou, the MWF said.

The wushu athletes have been training six days a week since April this year, aiming to achieve good results in the wusha gala, it added.

The MWF, which was formed in November 1993, has participated at home and abroad international wushu competitions at Southeast Asian, Asian and World classes, winning 109 medals -- 35 gold, 38 silver and 36 bronze medals since 1995.

Of the 109 medals, the MWF got 69 medals -- 22 golds, 22 silvers and 25 bronzes, from the Southeast Asian tournament, 24 -- 8 golds, 9 silvers and 7 bronzes, from the Asian event and 16 -- 5 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronzes, from the World wushu competitions respectively.

Myanmar hosted the 6th Asian Wushu Championship in November 2004, attracting more than 500 athletes, coaches and officials from 25 countries and regions. Myanmar stood third after China and Vietnam with 5 golds, 8 silvers and 9 bronzes in the competition.

Meanwhile, to mark the 15th anniversary of the Dialogue Mechanism between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a 28-member Chinese Wushu goodwill delegation, after touring three other ASEAN countries of Malaysia, Cambodia and Brunei, visited here in September, giving two shows which covers more than 20 categories of Wushu arts such as Taijiquan, Taijijian, Qiangshu, Changquan, Changgun, Nandao and Nangun.
