Newly-crowned world champion Fernando Alonso of Spain said on Friday that the 2005 season is so perfect that the season-ending Shanghai Grand Prix is not important to him.
The 24-year-old put Michael Schumacher's dominance to an end by winning the world champion two stages before the end of the season. He also made history by becoming the youngest world champion in Formula One history.
But his Renault team desperately needs him to win in Shanghai to secure their top place in the constructors' standings. Renaultled McLaren by two points.
However, Alonso said that he cares little about the battle between Renault and McLaren.
"For me it's perfect even if we lose the constructors' championship, I cannot ask for more than this from my season," he said in Shanghai.
"I hope to be on the podium again and help the team. If we can do it, it will be good but even if not we will be okay anyway because the team know the constructors' is important for the image of the team but it is not really crucial."
Sunday's race marks the end of Formula One's longest season to date but after 19 races, the constructors' championship could be decided on how many wins McLaren and Renault have scored.
If the points are level on Sunday afternoon, McLaren will win on countback as they currently have 10 wins to Renault's seven.
