China was defeated by Asian arch-rival South Korea 3-2 in the opening day's competition at the women's under-18 world volleyball championship here on Saturday.
Sixteen national teams, divided into four groups, participated in the tournament which will conclude on July 31.
In Group A, Croatia defeated Argentina 3-1, Egypt beat Macao, China, 3-0; In Group B, which also covers China and South Korea, Austria ousted Ukraine 3-2; In Group C, Brazil defeated Puerto Rico 3-0, Belarus edged out Russia 3-2; In Group D, the United States routed Tunisia 3-0, Italy beat Chinese Taipei 3-0.
