Tennis:Injured Hewitt doubtful for French Open
Latest Updated by 2005-05-12 09:50:06

Australia's Lleyton Hewitt might be forced to pull out of the French Open starting on May 23 after injuring his rib in a fall at his home on Monday.

Hewitt on Monday night withdrew from next week's World Team Cup in Germany where he was to lead the Australian team, the Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

"It is an unfortunate mishap and very disappointing," said his manager Roger Rasheed. "We will do our best to be ready for the French Open."

The world number two hasn't played on the ATP Tour since early March. He underwent surgery on his right foot after reaching the final at Indian Wells.

Hewitt's absence would be a further blow to Australia's chances of winning on the red clay of Paris.
